This terrible reason to pray
I keep stuffing my prayers
back through the glass
but the war won’t go away.
About the Poem
On a Saturday in April 2022, I watched news of the Bucha massacre unfold, via posts on Twitter on my phone, discovery by discovery. I thought of what mixed tool our phones are: without them, we wouldn’t know about such horrors for years, if ever. But our phones also increase our sense of helplessness; there is little we can actually do from such a distance.
